Luka Smyth Completes Permanent Move to Notts County
P11 Football is delighted to congratulate Luka Smyth on completing a permanent transfer to Notts County from Finnish Veikkausliiga side Vaasan Palloseura (VPS).
The 22-year-old Australian forward has signed a three-year contract with the League Two club, with the option of a further year, following an impressive breakthrough spell in Finland.
Luka’s journey to English football has been built on steady progression and perseverance. Having developed through the academy systems of Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners, he made the move to Europe in August 2024, joining VPS in Finland.
After initially impressing with the club’s development side, Luka worked his way into the first team before enjoying a standout 2026 campaign. He scored seven goals in just 14 league appearances, establishing himself as one of the Veikkausliiga’s most exciting young forwards.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Luka combines a commanding physical presence with excellent mobility, intelligent pressing and impressive technical ability. His all-round performances attracted significant attention, ultimately earning him the move to Notts County.
Speaking after completing the signing, Notts County Director of Football Richard Montague highlighted Luka’s profile and potential.
“Luka has a very interesting profile, standing at 6ft 4in but also being very strong in his pressing and comfortable with the ball at his feet.
“He arrives having enjoyed a breakthrough season in Finland, in which he’s been a big threat both in terms of his goals and all-round play.
“We believe he can carry that momentum into the new season with us and, with him still being so young, we see a lot of development potential in him.”
The move represents another significant milestone in Luka’s career and an exciting opportunity to continue his development in English football.
